Matlock U12: 28
Ashborne U12: 12
Max writes:
On the morning of the game we seriously looked in doubt to win. By 10:30am we must have had about 7 players. The opposition already had a full squad. As we started to warm up for the game more and more players arrived. Eventually we managed to get 12 players, still 1 player short. It turned out no-one came to save our bacon and we had to start-and finish-with 12 men.
In the first half we played considerably better rugby than the opposition, scoring 3 tries. Harry got the first and second tries with some great runs and Oli (G) ran round the blind side to collect the third. Later in the half we had to defend valiantly to protect our try line, which we did; until the inevitable Ashbourne try came.
We all knew we could easily win the game if we didn’t lose our heads, and were very confident going out on to the pitch in the second half. But our confidence was shattered when Ashborne scored an early try. They scored again soon after but luckily for us, the kicker missed and we felt a lot better after that. But we knew there was only 2 points in it. So then we drove forward and got a scrum towards the opposition line. From the scrum we did a ‘97’ but William didn’t need the support from either me or Philip, and strolled on over to score.
It was a very good game, but we need to improve on our rucking over the ball if we are to improve on our next game against Southwell.
Triumphant Matlock u12 team, after beating Ashborne at home.
Lee adds:
Well done everyone on a great effort.
